The diversity that Tommy has created with this brand and with his athletes immediately won me over to OO. You don't have to fit into a box or be an influencer with a massive following to get here and be part of it. You can just be yourself.
"I'm particularly inspired by athletes who are better than me or who do things differently. You can always learn something from someone else and then find the best approach for yourself."
How do you think the sport of strongman could be improved? Does it even need to be?
I wouldn't call it improvement, but you should never close your eyes to change — be it new formats, disciplines, or rules. The most important thing is to communicate. Whoever's up for it should do it, and whoever isn't, well, shouldn't.
What is it about you that makes you good at strongman? Did something in you develop, or were you born with it?
I wouldn't say I was gifted from birth, but I do have a certain knack for adapting very quickly to new circumstances. Besides, giving up isn't an option for me. If I want something, I go for it — how many attempts it takes is another matter.
What makes a good strongman athlete?
For me, what makes a good strongman is being versatile, adapting quickly to new situations, and maintaining the drive to learn new things. No matter what your final ranking is, don't lose sight of the fun of the sport.
How does Odd Objects improve the sport of strongman?
With its whole ethos, OO is a real asset — the products, which I absolutely love. Where else can you get these neoprene shorts? The collaborations: where else would a smaller athlete like me get an opportunity like this?
What's your favorite Odd Objects product?
Definitely the leggings and the Sho Shorts. I don't wear anything else for training or most of my free time. Doing deadlifts in any other leggings feels like a crime.
