What about strongman pulled you in and kept you here?
The people. I've met the best humans in the world doing this sport, and because of that I love it more than I ever loved football — and I'm from Texas, so that's saying something. (Borderline sacrilegious, depending on who you ask.)
"Explosive speed, great dreads, and athleticism. I'm not your average strongman athlete and I like it that way."
What makes a good strongman athlete?
Being adaptable, moving efficiently, and maintaining composure. Also, for crying out loud, show some personality. You can be awkward and boring every other day.
How is Odd Objects helping the sport of strongman?
Odd Objects brings a new level of creativity and personality to the sport. We talk about the sport growing, but Odd Objects actually puts those ideas into action — and the result is pure gold.
What inspires you?
Josh Kowalewski's hair and Paddy Haynes' mustache. Other than that, continuing to surpass what I once thought was my ceiling, looking back on how far I've come, and knowing what I still have left to do.
What else do you want us to know?
I take the sport seriously. But people need to feel something when they watch big-time competitions. You'd be surprised what a celebration dance and some dread-shaking can do for the crowd.
What's your favorite Odd Objects product?
The Sho Shorts. The compression is great and I can still move as fast as ever.
