ALFIE POYSER
UK's Strongest U23
What is it about you that makes you good at strongman? Did something in you develop, or were you born with it?
I'm resilient and always looking for ways to improve. I'm also very self-critical, which allows me to develop and get better throughout training by reviewing my own videos during sessions to see what could be improved. My degree in strength and conditioning also allows me to be reflective about my own training.
"I'm inspired by constant improvement, hitting that next goal, and finding those little areas to get better. I want to constantly improve and beat my own targets — that feeling of meeting and exceeding a goal is all I need."
Why do you want to be on this team?
Odd Objects is a great thing to be a part of and supported by. The products alone have been game-changing for strongman — having a pair of breathable neoprene shorts that offer great compression, plus the support the team give each other and the real positive effect it's having on promoting strongman and strongwoman. The team is more like a family that tells it how it is, and you can always rely on them to help you improve. Giving every athlete a chance and support is really refreshing to see.
What makes a good strongman athlete?
A good strongman athlete is someone who is mouldable and always willing to take on advice, try new training methods, and stay open-minded to learning new things. Those who think they don't need advice are often the ones who will struggle or fail in their strongman career. Every athlete needs a team of support, and strongman shouldn't be any different.
Do you enjoy helping new athletes?
I love it. I have a first-class degree in strength and conditioning and run my own online coaching business called Poyser Strength.
How does Odd Objects improve the sport of strongman?
Through the development of innovative products and support across all levels of strongman competition, and by being a brand that promotes all sorts of strongmen and strongwomen — especially through series like Nature Walk — Odd Objects are definitely pushing strongman both inside and outside of the opens more than any other competitor or brand, and it shows through the fan base. It's not just another strongman brand.
What's your favorite Odd Objects product?
It has to be the neoprene shorts, as they offer the best compression of any shorts I've tried, and with them being breathable you can't ask for much more! But I'm also a sucker for the camo range and the Flo State range.
